The Fanpage – Pillar of your Business-Facebook-Universe

I get a ton of questions, pretty much on a daily basis, about the difference between a facebook fan page and a facebook profile and facebook groups… so much so that I wrote a pretty comprehensive post about it a few months ago.

Today (or tonight as it were), I want to talk a little more in depth about why it is important to have a fan page on facebook and some strategies to get the most out of it.

Your Business Home on Facebook

There needs to be some sort of separation between you and your business on Facebook. Some people might care about what your kids are doing and the vacation you just went on, but the vast majority of clients probably don’t. Your fan page is the place for you to post stuff that relates to your business so that the people who care about your business can see it and (hopefully) share it.

Unlimited Potential Friends

In case you didn’t know, you can only have 5000 friends with your facebook profile. However, your fan page can have unlimited followers. I don’t know that many really huge businesses that have under 5000 fans. Shoot for the moon… Start accumulating fans today.

Forgive the Commercial

Your fan page is designed to promote your business to the people that really want to hear about it (otherwise why would they have become a fan). Your fans have shown that they value what you do and what you have to say. It’s like a 24/7 commercial for your business.


It’s worth it to get together with a developer who knows a bit about designing custom facebook fan pages, because there are a ton of great apps and plugins that can make your page really stand out
